City of Portland, Maine
Shared Micromobility System Advisory, System Design & Planning, Business, Operations & Funding Strategy
The City of Portland, Maine had made several attempts to launch a bike share system for the city, over an 8-year span, but was never successful in getting the program off the ground. In 2021, the City released an RFP, and SustainMobility advised the operator who was selected to operate and manage the system, Tandem Mobility. We worked with the City’s planning and public works departments to identify bike share hub locations, and meet with stakeholders and potential funders to launch the system. Portland Bikeshare launched in August 2022 with the first phase, and SustainMobility worked with the City and bike share operator to expand the system and sustain its operation.

Massachusetts Rapid Recovery Planning
Community Engagement, Strategic Guidance
In partnership with Civic Space Collaborative, in Somerville, MA, we were a subcontractor to their planning, research, and civic engagement efforts in Northampton and Salem, MA, to develop a “Rapid Recovery Plan.” The program was intended to provide every municipality in Massachusetts the opportunity to develop actionable, recovery plans, specific to their unique economic challenges and COVID-19 related impacts. We supported Civic Space Collaborative in their capacity as Plan Facilitators and Subject Matter Experts. The planning process included collecting data, conducting interviews with key stakeholders, and finalize a list of project recommendations for each community. The final plan included details about budget, funding sources, potential partners, timeframe, and the process to accomplish each project.
